Green Justice Ministry
In February 2024 Southwood UCC became a Creation Justice Congregation!
The Purpose of the Southwood Green Justice Team is to EDUCATE about climate crisis, BE ACTIVE and DISCERNING about our reciprocal relationship with creation, and MODEL and FOSTER ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE.
The work of the Green Justice Team is focused on five areas:
1) Institutional Life and Practice
2) Children and Youth
3) Theology and Worship
4) Circles of Awareness
5) Connections to a Broader Movement
Our Covenant
Our abuses of creation are increasingly impacting nature and human well-being, and some suffer more than others due to factors such as race, class, and economic inequalities.
With God’s love, we commit as individuals and as a congregation to be good stewards of creation, and to seek justice for those more susceptible to the impacts of our environmental abuses. We commit to address environmental abuses and act as examples in all aspects of our personal and church life, and to reach outside Southwood to expand our knowledge and advocacy.
